Killer Studio "Trap" SAS
Killer Studio "Trap" SAS
12v Over-Drive

I was recently in Japan on business to attend the Tokyo Auto Salon , then shortly after, I decided to drop by Killer Studio to check out what’s new in the works. I was fortunate to be able to catch Hiro Matsumura at the shop since its been quite difficult for me in the past to reach him by phone.  In any case, after being shown a few new items, I was drawn to a custom tailored Tokyo Marui HK SAS being built for one of their customers.  After a brief demonstration, I was immediately sold and ordered one for myself in the same configuration.
Intro:
The SAS Double-Trap is based on the Marui HK SAS that has been tuned to the infamous 12v overdrive configuration as found on the Cyber-Aug SMG series. To power the overdrive gearbox, the original SAS rear butt end has been switched over to the G3 full stock to accommodate a standard, 1700Mah 12v battery. In addition, the SAS also utilizes a modified KSC SOCOM suppressor commonly known as the “Trap” suppressor as seen on the original Killer Studio "Double-Trap" K.
SAS Double Trap:
The original 12v overdrive series were able to fire 25-26 round per second at 300fps w/ .25g Tokyo Marui Tactical grade BB’s.  This new updated 12v version consisting of systema and Angel parts, will fire an additional 4-5 shots per second at the same velocity with the same bb’s. Although 4-5 bb’s doesn’t sound like much, keep in mind that would be an additional 240-300 shots per minute!

The KS manager commented that the main difference between the previous 12v is that the updated version utilizes a different piston and motor tune, but otherwise identical. The only flaw for this particular gun is the R.O.F is just too fast for the OEM hi-capacity magazines to keep feeding. They must be kept FULLY wound in order to fire without skips. However, this can easily be remedied by either using the FIRST Factory magazines or simply by increasing the coil tension with one of the Zenith magazine upgrade kits.
12 Volt Over-Drive Tuning:
"Trap" Suppressor:

To the uninformed newbie or milsim fanatic, yes, it looks like an ordinary SOCOM suppressor that will attach to the wrong format. (Not to mention that the gun itself is nowhere near spec to a real steel variant)

However, do keep in mind that Killer Studio creations are primarily catered toward the Japanese market, where function plays more of an importance over whether or not a proper suppressor is attached to this or that gun.  With that said, the purpose of the Trap suppressor is not only to reduce the muzzle report, but to also serve as a barrel extension which increases the overall range and shot consistency.

Since I ordered the SAS with the barrel works option, this Trap system has been slightly improved over the original Double-Trap K version.
The concept remains the same, but at a much tighter tolerance. The barrel works for the SAS is a KM Head 1950 inner barrel that has been electroplated down to a tighter bore, which in turn connects to a shorted, untreated KM 6.04mm barrel found inside the suppressor. The fit is perfect due to the careful tapering of both inner barrels and will boost the velocity output and range by an additional 15% over the original  Trap system.
The Killer Studio SAS Double-Trap is primarily catered toward the fast paced player who likes to be right up in the frontline intent on saturating as many opponents with multiple hits. Although the range and accuracy the SAS with trap suppressor attached is comparable to a full sized AEG with a professional M120+ based tuning, its usually left off to keep the gun compact and maneuverable.

The Trap Suppressor attaches and detaches with 3-4 quick turns, and is basically intended to be used when in need of that extra range and power to compete against guns such as the Predator APS2's and CyberAugs.
Function:
The predominant draw of this gun to me was  the fact that it is compact in design and capable of an incredible ROF while maintaining as much durability as possible. The Killer Studio 12v SAS is simply a finely tuned bb hose which is why I decided not to use any optics at moment.

Previous 12v guns I’ve owned have never lasted more than 2000+ rounds fired, especially considering the abusive treatment I’ve put them through. However, the KS SAS has gone through well over 7 bags of Marui .25g bb’s from writing this review and has not yet experienced any major breakdowns or issues.
